It Sure Beats Working and other fancy stuff – Albertideation March 2018

It Sure Beats Working, by Michael Katz

I finally got around to it

– I bought Michael Katz’s book – It Sure Beats Working

I just got back from a family trip to Philadelphia. Soon after I got off the plane I was faced with soft pretzels. They are everywhere in Philadelphia – and I did not hesitate! The trip was a great time (my Sister’s daughter’s bat mitzvah!) and I came away refreshed and ready to make it through the rest of Winter in Portland. Why am I telling you this? It’s part of what Michael Katz talks about in the book mentioned above – sprinkling in details about your life when you reach out to customers and clients (see Lesson 4: Humanize Your Interactions ). Making your interactions more human is a key factor in his success and you experience it in every newsletter he sends.

I’ve been enjoying this Spring – I’ve picked up a couple new clients and continue to work with many I’ve been with for years.

New: Lucky Mojo Curio Co. in Forestville, CA
2 years: Fern Kitchen , Portland, Oregon
5 years-ish – Alberta Rose Theatre, Portland, Oregon

I’m so grateful to these and other companies who trust me with their newsletters. It’s also been interesting to me to see how businesses change over time – including mine!

I want to mention that the main tool I use – and how you’re reading this newsletter – via Constant Contact – is having a 50% off of 2 months sale – which will end at midnight 3.16.18. You can always start with a 2-month free trial, too. I have all sorts of support for you if you’d like to get started down this path.

Sometimes it makes sense to start something before you think you’re ready. For instance, I wish I’d bought Michael’s book 8 years ago when I started my business – in 8 years you might wish you’d started a newsletter today 🙂 This is one of those instances where you don’t want to put off until tomorrow something you can start today 🙂

Here’s to your success!

Sincerely,

Albert Kaufman

11.11.15 by Zen Achilles

Happy 2016! Here’s another edition of my monthly e-letter and my Top 11 List for 2015. A place I share with you what’s going on with me – my latest thinking and a call to action. If you’re more interested in my email marketing for small businesses work – please let me know and I’ll move you to my biz list.

Here is my top 11 things that come to mind list for 2015. They make my life better and you might find some value here, too. Enjoy!
Wileyware 2015
New Wileyware Designs
BeetBoost
Fern Kitchen
Rooseveltpdx
RooseveltsPDX

1. Top Glassware – Wileyware – I put that at the top as it’s the item I use the most in my life – drinking glasses. I know that might sound strange – but drinking from these glasses makes me happy.

2. Top juice/sports drink of beets and tart cherries – BeetBoost – I’ve watched my friend, Rick Perry, turn an idea into a very tasty/health drink. Thanks, Rick.

3. Top new restaurant in my neighborhood – Fern Kitchen (clients/friends). Paleo, kombucha, breakfast, great hours, Yoga Union next door, friendly staff – thank you, universe.

4. Top awesome store in Portland – RooseveltsPDX (client/friend). This one has become more of an obsession 🙂 From the moment I walked into Gregg Harris’s store, I was hooked. I go for the oxygen, the learning, Gregg’s philosophy on life and work/retirement/live-work space thinking. 44th and Hawthorne. Go.

5. Top dessert place in SE Portlandia + my home away from home: Marino’s Adriatic Cafe. Live music, late night European atmosphere. A great place to strike up a conversation with a stranger. Good on multiple levels. 41st and Division.

6. Top change in Oregon – Legalizing Marijuana. Beyond the “fun” factor, I’m seeing my community use cannabis for healing mental and physical ailments. Visit my friend, Steve Bennett’s store, Farma to learn about marijuana’s medical properties.

7. Top Podcast. I found my way to Tim Ferris’s Podcasts + The 4 Hour Work Week: highly recommended read).

8. Top new app – SuperBetter. Through Tim Ferris’s interview with Jane McGonigal I was led to her thoughts on healing through online games. Jane’s TedTalk was my favorite of last year.

9. Top Portland performance of 2015: Beatles White Album Christmas with the Wanderlust Circus at the Alberta Rose Theatre (client/friend)(I saw it twice). The Alberta Rose continues to be my favorite place to see music in Portland. The hall is intimate, the sound is great and there’s a magic to the place. Kudos to Joe Cawley for making things run so smoothly there for the past 5 years.

10. Top radio station in the world: KMHD Jazz Radio (addict) 89.1 in PDX – KMHD.fm – streaming around the world.  (top 2nd and 3rd KBOO 90.7 and Allclassical.org 89.9

11. You! I couldn’t have as rich a life I do without your presence in it. Thanks for reading, playing and sharing time with me on this planet. We only get so much time here and my hope is that you and I make the most of it.

Have a great month and I’ll be back with you in February.

With love,

Albert

Late Summer in The Birthday Garden

Late Summer in The Birthday Garden

Albertideation

Hi there,

Well, it’s been a fine summer, hasn’t it?  I’ve been doing some research these past couple of months and have come up with a few things I think you may find useful.

First, friends lists on Facebook. Sounds simple enough, but the more I talk with people, the more I’m hearing a consistent frustration in FB usage. This short video describes why I think it’s useful to make lists of friends – and how to set one (or more) up.

https://screencast.com/t/H36r7Wh79

I’ve begun working closely with two clients –

Robin Denburg, Realty Robin – https://www.facebook.com/RealtyRobinPortland

And Jane’s Healthy Kitchen: https://www.facebook.com/JanesHealthyKitchen

If real estate (buying or selling a home in Portland) or eating healthier interests you, please do check out Jane and Robin’s pages, like them, and say hello.  Robin’s one of the nicest people involved in real estate I’ve ever met and Jane’s cookbook (due out in November) is sure to be a winner.

Second, Jane and Robin have hired me to “do” their social networking for a month.  We’re trying this out – interestingly, they both picked the same month – so, I’m learning a lot about supporting businesses closely in the social media/website/email marketing space right now.

If such an arrangement sounds interesting to you, let’s talk. I think it’s a valuable way to go – especially to jump-start your marketing efforts if you’re just getting started, but also for those who’ve been at it for a while.  I have been focusing my efforts in this area closely for years now and I understand a lot about how to make the best use of these tools.

I also continue to work with some clients on a one-on-one hourly basis – and that’s proving useful, as well.

In October I’ll begin offering my group classes ($30/2-hours) and I’ll let you know when the next classes are when I schedule them.

I continue to pepper my fan page: https://facebook.com/albertideation with useful tools that I find along the way – if you haven’t visited for a while, a quick scroll down the page will give you some ideas you may not have thought of.  Also, I have also been using my newsletter and website as ways to provide this information to the world.

I hope you’re having a great end of Summer and look forward to supporting you in the coming months and years.

With Gratitude,

Albert Kaufman

GGG: Dominatrix for Dummies – in PDX through the end of the month

GGGGGG – Dominatrix for Dummies

One of the most fun theatrical experiences I have ever seen. Please, if you live in Portland, Oregon, or know folks who do, come see this show!

This show is about so much more than S&M and training to be a dominatrix – this show is really about learning how to worship YOURSELF!

Radical Self-LUST! Come and get it!

The deets:

By turns raunchy, hilarious, and heartbreaking, GGG: Dominatrix for Dummies is Eleanor O’Brien’s solo show about training to be a dominatrix in NYC. Far from a simple guide to whips and chains, there is a love story woven into the fabric of the S&M adventure. From tap shoes to breakdance, Phil Collins to soul motion, GGG: D4D follows a deeper journey about what it means to be worshipped, and how everyone wants to be wanted.

Like the highly acclaimed series Inviting Desire, GGG: D4D shares the hallmark traits of this sex-positive theater company – erotic, authentic, and highly entertaining.

Just in time for Valentines Day, GGG: D4D opens on the 10th and runs Thurs-Sun at 8 pm

Thursday shows are followed by a Q&A
Friday shows are followed by a dance party!
Saturday shows are followed by an erotic open-mic
Sunday shows are followed by cocktails at The Blue Monk.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Get ’em while they’re hot!

Albert on TV – 2011

Albert Kaufman, Jim Lockhart and Richard Carpenter on today’s issues – Portland Cable Access TV – Fall, 2011

I took part in a show with Jim Lockhart and Richard Carpenter recently to discuss population growth and other environmental issues.  I got to be the star and so thought I’d put this out into cyberspace for my own record of my current thinking and hopefully to entertain and enlighten others.  Let me know what you think.
